Glass remains a very popular choice for our customers. Back in 2016 we ran a series of articles about the process of producing our toughened balustrade glass to meet our high standards. We select experienced, proven glass suppliers carefully to ensure we can install excellent quality glass into our staircases. Our suppliers receive our glass drawings as a CAD file from our design team and then precision cut each panel before sending them for toughening.

The articles cover the glass cutting, toughening and bevelling processes as detailing of the standards we work to inline with the Glass & Glass Federations criteria.

As trends and styles change, it makes sense to move with the times. Mr & Mr Tye decided to do the same. With the rest of the home already updated, it was time to replace the existing dark staircases with oak and glass. This would not only be in keeping with other decor in the house, but would brighten and invigorate the whole of the hall, stairs and landing.

Before & After: Changing ranch rails for a glass balustrade

Interior style trends have changed over the years as society has shifted to many different styles throughout history. While many of us have decided to switch up the pink and green bathroom suites which were once popular “back in the day”, the ranch rail balustrades are a 1970’s design feature which have managed to outstay their welcome for decades and are still a fixture in many modern households. One of the main reasons that are cited for replacing ranch rails other than the dated appearance, is the amount of light which is restricted by the solid wooden planks which span the staircases.
