Whatever it is you’re buying, chances are you’ll be shopping around to get the best price you can. But what do you actually get for your money? It’s important to be clear on what you are buying. Will there be any hidden charges for designs or surveys? Will you have any work to do after the installation is finished?
Abbott-Wade Tradesmen and Apprentices
Since our early days in 1996, Abbott-Wade have always invested in the future; in our infrastructure, resources and staff – chiefly our tradesmen and apprentices. Over the years, in addition to qualified carpenters and cabinet makers, many apprentices have passed through our ranks; learning the skills and techniques needed to meet our high standards of craftsmanship and gaining the relevant recognised qualifications along the way. Not only is this our way of giving something back to our community, but as we don’t use subcontractors, by employing and training our own staff, we can ensure that each tradesperson we employ is capable of working to our high standards.
Reaching new heights in staircase renovation
Once again, we’ve been acknowledged by a local newspaper for reaching new heights in staircase renovations. You may have seen us advertised in the national press or been recommended by our customers as far afield as Aberdeen or Aldershot, but we always like to see our names in the St Helens Star – our local newspaper where we started advertising when Abbott-Wade was still a fledgling new venture.
Staircase Stories: Mr & Mrs Dowlman, Lincolnshire
“The hall stairs and landing will be worthy of inclusion in Country Life magazine!”
There are many types of staircase, in all shapes and sizes. Open tread staircases are a great way to add an open feeling to a living area. However, even an open tread staircase can need a bit of TLC eventually and Abbott-Wade were the obvious choice for Mr & Mrs Dowlman in Lincolnshire who wanted to replace old ranch rails to create a bright glass staircase. As other work in the home progressed, the completed staircase provided the vision and drive to ensure the rest of the project was completed to the same standard:
“Needless to say we are delighted with our revamped staircase. At the moment it is a beacon of delight in a sea of disorganisation!”
Abbott-Wade turn disappointment into delight
This a tale of disappointment turning to delight and involves a lovely lady from Buckinghamshire. After paying her deposit to another leading staircase company following their sales visit, Mrs Paxton was disappointed when her deposit was returned and she was told that they would being unable to complete her installation. She would only become a happy customer once she had contacted Abbott-Wade.

The Abbott-Wade Oak Newel Post – It’s something special!
The Abbott-Wade M8 newel post is our favoured newel and coveted by our competitors because the 8mm precision mitred faces provide 4 perfect oak faces without any visible joins which are evident in the laminated 2-piece newels used by other staircase companies.

What’s more, this is not what you’ll hear others describe as a ‘wrapped post’ because such substantial pieces oak surround the oak core meaning there is not risk of the mitred joints separating.
